Adaptation

With each new little step we give we adapt ourselves faster and faster. I mean, it was a pain in the ass for me to swap from IRC to ICQ, but then we all moved to MSN and at the moment I usually keep my facebook, gmail and Live chat open at the same time, while using Twitter or wikis for more complex conversations. I even used Wave for a while. I still remember how hard it was to text for the first couple of days and how I got used to chat on my cell after that. Tech adaptation is like a snowball, it rolls slow and small at the beginning but the more it moves the easier and fatter it gets.
This, of course, includes my lenses. I've had them on for a couple of years and I've become so used to them I tend to forget about how useful they can be for some stuff. Wendy sent me a message right after logging in:
Hey, handsome, whatcha doing?
I twiddled my fingers for a bit and asked Ro about this Aliya girl. I figured out that if they were talking they probably wouldn't realise I was typing.
"Not much to say," answered Ro. "Mark is really protective about her. We just met her once to discuss the plans, she seems nice but looks a little bit too Russian for me."
Hey yourself, I'm having a bath with three other men. I messaged Wendy.
"A little bit too Russian?" I asked.
"Not in a bad way," said Ro. "It's just, you know, you could see her as this cold-hearted Soviet bitch cliche from films. I mean, she's sexy and such, but if she got one of these outfits with the leather boots and stuff and a whip she would be scary."
"Everyone looks scary with a whip, Ro," I said. Kim smirked a bit.
Hot!!! Have you forgone women completely or is tomorrow's date still up? said Wendy.
"Well, I mean she's not scary sexy, but scary scary, if you know what I mean."
"I don't," said Alan.
"Thanks, Alan, I was just about to say so," I said.
Fuck, I kept forgetting about my dates with Wendy. I hoped everything would be OK and that no one would kidnap, bomb or threaten me and answered her: Still up, I won't give up women so long as there are some as cute as you. 7PM at Regal's?
"Screw you both," said Ro, and turned to leave the bathroom. He looked at Kim for a few second as he turned. "And screw you too."
That left me alone with these two guys. I realised that I was beginning to like them, at least they were better than most of my brother's associates, or so it seemed. Alan was actually smiling when Ro left.
"So," I said. "Can I leave then?"
"Are you sure you're going to be OK?" asked Alan.
<3 Will be there! Can't wait! Agh, what am I going to wear?!
"Honestly, Alan," I said, "I have no fucking idea."

And so I left the place, thinking to myself that Ro had sold out. He had bought into my brother's bullshitingness and was actually destined to not be my friend anymore.
And yeah, what really bugged me was the fact that Mark needed some tech head to take care of some stuff and he never thought of asking me.
