Couples day at Lem's

Nothing much happened that day. I kept expecting something weird to happen and for someone to try to kill me. And then, as they day passed, I realised that if something was going to happen, it would probably happen during my date. That was just my luck, wasn't it?
I was ready at 5PM, though we were meeting in a spot five minutes away from my house, but I had no Dreamcast so I had nothing to do. I spent most of the day simply playing silly little games on the computer, waiting for anything to happen. It's weird how time slows down when nothing is happening, uh?

I'll admit it, I was missing the adrenaline.

I arrived half an hour early to the place were I was meeting Wendy and, once again, I waited. Almost twenty four hours had gone by without nothing strange happening. Maybe things would calm down. Maybe my date would turn out great.
And then Mark called. I had fifteen minutes to go, so I picked it up. Damn.
“Jay, I need you to explain something to me.”
“Yeah, good evening to you too, Mark.”
“Who was the woman you slept with?”
How the hell did he know that?
“Why should that be any of your business?”
“Well, the guys who bombed your house are the same guys who are trying to sabotage my new enterprise, so I guess they are trying to use you somehow. I don't know why.”
“So, you're also paranoid now?”
“Am not, we've got the guys who sold them the explosives. Damn amateurs don't even know how to build their own.”
“This conversation is making me nervous,” I told him.
“Alan said you lied about having sex, who have you slept with?”
“Mark...” I started as I looked up and saw Wendy coming towards me with a big smile and a cute hat that looked like kittens ears.
“Was it the girl you escaped from my funeral with? Guys who saw her say she was not really your type.”
“What do you mean?” I asked while I waved at Wendy.
“They told me she was actually hot.”
Wendy was finally within earshot, “Okay, nice talking to you, see you!” I said and snapped closed my phone.
“You look great,” I told her and smiled.
She came forward and kissed me on the cheek. My phone started ringing again, I simply smiled and looked at her.
“Aren't you going to pick it up?”
“It's not important,” I said as I muted first the call and then my phone.
“Shall we grab a coffee while we wait for dinnertime?” I asked.
“Well, the comic book store should be open still, I was hoping we could hit it first.”
Damn, I loved this girl.
